The Red Sox completed a 4 Player Trade earlier today with the Rays.
The Rays would receive Red Sox pitchers Jeffrey Springs, who was cut from the 40-Man Roster yesterday, and Chris Mazza as well as cash from the Red Sox. The Red Sox would receive Rays prospects, Catcher Ronald Hernandez, and INF Nick Sogard.
Chris Mazza, 31, bounced around from team to team in the minors from 2012 until in 2019, he got his big league shot with the Mets. He would pitch 16 innings with a 5.51 ERA. He would pitch for the Red Sox in 2020, and in 30 innings he would post a 4.80 ERA.
Jeffrey Springs, 28, in 20 innings with the Red Sox in 2020 posted a 7.08 ERA in 20 innings. The past two years he spent with the Texas Rangers, from 2018-2019 with Texas he posted a 4.90 ERA.
Nick Sogard, had a very good first year in the Rays minor League system at the A- Level in 2019. Hitting .290 with a .718 OPS with no home runs in 63 games at the age of 23. He spent 2020 at the Alternate Training Site of the Rays.
Ronaldo Hernandez, has been with several Rays Minor League Teams since 2015. His most recent year, in 2019, (2020 was spent at an Alternate Training Site) Ronaldo played 103 games and hit .265 with an OPS of .696 and 9 Home Runs.
