Marcus Smart will be returning to the court tonight after a calf injury that left him sitting courtside for a month and a half as Smart injured his calf on January 30th. The Celtics Guard is averaging 13.1 PTS, 2.8 REB, 6.1 in his injury plagued season.
With Smart returning it will give the Celtics Lots more energy, as well as Bench depth. His absence has made the Celtics realize how valuable he is to the squad. It will be a huge boost in terms of team morale. While the Celtics were missing there emotional leader, The Celtics lost many winnable games, as they were just 5-7 without Smart.
Also without Smart the Celtics lacked defensive intensity, the Celtics though this stretch were never on the same page while on defense, with Smart’s intensity, Leadership, and game changing effort will make a difference when he returns tonight.
From the very start of the Season, fans have criticized GM Danny Ainge for the lack of bench depth. Marcus Smart injury immediately created a huge whole for Brad Stevens squad. Rookies Payton Pritchard and Aaron Nesmith roles changed and both played increased minutes.
The Celtics greatly missed his veteran leadership. With Smart returning The Celtics will look to improve greatly on both ends of the floor tonight. As the Celtics play the Brooklyn Nets at 7:30 PM EST.
