The New England Revolution are signing Icelandic winger Arnór Traustason from Malmö FF. The rumors first began brewing in the very first days of 2021, and died down for almost two whole months. Now, the Revs are prepared to add an experienced left wing that has the ability to be an immediate starter.
Throughout the off-season, the Revs have picked up a new starter at left back, in the center of midfield, and some additional depth. The one hole that remained in the lineup was at the left wing position. Traustason is the answer to those calls. The depth at the position lies in the rapid Emmanuel Boateng, as well as veteran Teal Bunbury. Arnór is an Iceland national team regular, playing in the Euros and the 2018 World Cup. He even notched the winning goal in a 2016 Euros match with Austria in the dying moments. He has scored four other goals with the national team, while scoring 27, along with 36 assists in his club career.
The 27 year old has been around for a while now, but he still will bring a new source of attack for the Revolution. The combination of Gil, Buksa, and Bou will allow Traustason to get in behind the defense and create opportunities. Arnór has a profile of being an accurate passer as well, which allows him to pose a threat in multiple areas. These factors will only make the Revolution a scarier team for opposing defenses in 2021.
This will most likely be the final piece added to the roster, meaning the Revs will roll into the preseason with the current team. The MLS preseason is now up and running, but New England won’t play until their back to back 10:00 PM match-ups with LA Galaxy on March 27th and 31st.
