As the trade deadline creeps up on us, and with the Bruins just holding on to a playoff spot in the tough East division, they are in need of bolstering their roster to have a shot at the Stanley cup.
With the COVID situation hurting the Bruins with the additions of star David Pastrnak along with forwards David Krejci, Craig Smith, Sean Kuraly and Jake Debrusk to the COVID protocol list. With already secondary scoring problems, these losses just add to salt to the womb.
In addition, the Bruins are in need of defense and the injuries of Brandon Carlo, Kevan Miller and Jeremy Lauzon does not help as well.
The first player who Bruins should definitely target this trade deadline is Kyle Palmieri.
The Bruins have been rumored as a suitor for Palmieri for quite some time but now that they have secondary scoring problems and COVID protocol not helping that case, the bruins should definitely target Forward from the devils Kyle Palmieri.
The second forward that the Bruins should target is Forward from the Red Wings Bobby Ryan. While having an off and on career in Ottawa after an amazing career in Anaheim, he’s now off to a good start in Detroit. Bobby Ryan can prove he can score goals and be a clutch player come playoff time.
The return for Bobby Ryan would not be a lot so it could be a low risk high reward option for the Bruins when trade deadline comes. The third forward the Boston Bruins should target is Jake Virtanen. Jake virtanen has been on the trade block of Vancouver for 2 seasons now and many rumours have swirled of Boston being a potential suitor.
There has also been rumours of former Bruins now duck Danton Heinen being a one for one candidate for Jake virtanen which means the price on Jake is not very expensive. This trade good see Bjork and a pick or Debrusk and a pick heading to Vancouver.
Two Defenseman the Bruins should target are Alex Edler from the Canucks and Brandon Montour from the Sabres.
Alex Edler would again be a cheaper option for the Bruins and would be a great depth price to play with either Grezclyk or Connor. Alex Edler is currently 34 years old and on a heavy 6 million dollar AAV contract which the Canucks would need to retain at least 15%.
The next option would make a much bigger impact than Edler and that is Brandon Montour. Brandon Montour is currently carrying a $3.85 Million salary AAV and is only 26. His contract is up at years end therefore he would be a rental unless the bruins were to re-sign him. He’s a part of a rebuilding Sabres team, and will probably be more than likely to deal him if the offer is right.
The Bruins should definitely target at least two of these players at the trade deadline to improve their chances at making it anywhere close to the Stanley cup especially with the Bruins injury problems and covid protocol issues as well.
