Patriots Cut Justin Rohrwasser & Two Others

Today, the Patriots waived Kicker Justin Rohrwasser, and linebackers Cassh Maluia and Michael Pinckney.

The waiving of Rohrwasser comes after kicker Nick Folk was re-signed last week to a one-year-deal. Rohrwasser was selected in the 5th round of the 2020 draft, and was supposedly drafted to be the next kicker for the Patriots.

But that didn’t work out so well, as the Rhode Island/Marshall alum was not all that impressive in Training Camp. He would spend the entire 2020 season on the Patriots practice squad, and Nick Folk would be the Patriots kicker all of 2020 making 92.9% of his field goals.

Justin Rohrwasser was the first kicker drafted in the 2020 draft, and the Pats took him over the Colts Rodrigo Blankenship (Colts) and Tyler Bass (Bills) who turned out to be really successful picks for both teams. On the other hand, the Patriots pick of Rohrwasser was not a successful pick. The Patriots definitely missed out big time on a future kicker.

Kicker Roberto Aguayo is also on the practice squad too, which leaves the Patriots left with two kickers on the depth chart.

Linebackers Cassh Maluia and Michael Pinckney were waived too. Maluia was a 6th round pick by New England last year and played 9 games in his rookie season. However, he didn’t really play all that much in those 9 games. He played just 10 defensive snaps, but did play a decent amount on special teams playing 76 special teams snaps.

Pinckney went undrafted last year out of Miami, and was signed to the Patriots practice squad in October. He would be suspended during the season though for 6 weeks while on the practice squad due to undisclosed reasons.
