After many many months of waiting, it’s finally Opening Day. The Red Sox take on the Orioles for the first three games of the 2021 season, and here’s the full series preview:
Pitching Schedule:
4/1 THURSDAY: N. Eovaldi vs. J. Means
4/3 SATURDAY: T. Houck vs. M. Harvey
4/4 SUNDAY: G. Richards vs. B. Zimmerman
Eovaldi makes his second straight Opening Day Start, after E-Rod was said to have ‘dead arm.’
The Orioles are coming into 2021 after a 25-35 2020, finishing 4th in the AL East. They finished one spot ahead of the Red Sox, who finished dead last in the AL East at 24-36.
The Red Sox look to bounce back from a rough season, with newly hired manager Alex Cora. The Orioles however will probably go back to being a bottom feeder of the AL East, as four out of the five teams in the AL East have a legit shot at playing in October.
The Red Sox were 5-5 against the Orioles in 2020, and 3-3 at Fenway which is where this series will be held. These two faced each other last year for the Opening Series, and the Red Sox won the first game of the series 13-1. But they would go on to lose the second game of the series 7-2 and the third game of the series 7-4.
This will be just the 6th time in 25 seasons the Red Sox have hosted Opening Day. (2002, 2009, 2010, 2017, 2020)
After this, the Red Sox will continue the homestand with a three-game-series versus the Rays, and then pack their bags and head to Baltimore for another three-game-series, and the first road series of the season.
