Red Sox Reliever Austin Brice was sent down to AAA Worcester, prior to Tuesday’s matchup versus the Braves after passing through waivers.
Brice holds a 6.94 ERA this season, and has been one of the few weak spots of the Red Sox. The 28-year old right-hander has allowed nine runs, in 12 appearances and 11.2 frames.
Brice joins a stacked bullpen in Worcester, including pitchers that have experience with the Red Sox, Colten Brewer, Matt Hall, Marcus Walden, and Brandon Workman. In addition, they have Brandon Brennan, Matt McCarthy and John Schreiber – all of which with major league experience.
Michael Chavis sent down, Christian Arroyo activated:
The Red Sox have sent down Michael Chavis, and have officially recalled infielder Christian Arroyo, after spending some time on the IL (left hand contusion) and rehabbing in AAA Worcester. However, Arroyo won’t be in the lineup Tuesday.
Chavis, in his short stint with the Red Sox hit .273, with an OPS of .758, homering once in his 33 plate appearances. Arroyo and Chavis were fighting with each other for one of the last spots on the roster in Spring Training, but Arroyo beat Chavis out even after Chavis homered seven times in spring.
Arroyo has had a solid 2021, as in 23 games and 76 plate appearances the 26-year old has hit .275, with an OPS of .700. He has not tallied a big fly.
