Another tough day at the office for the Red Sox, as they fell to Houston 5-1 to kick off June. Here’s a recap:
- Richards goes six: Garrett Richards went six innings in the loss, allowing two runs off four hits, walking four while striking out five. He was given the loss, his fourth of the season.
- Red Sox grab only run in fifth: The Red Sox managed to get a run in the fifth inning, off of an RBI ground out from Marwin Gonzalez, that drove in the hot Hunter Renfroe.
- Errors, walks cost Sox in seventh: Hirokazu Sawamura came on to pitch the seventh entering with the score still tight at 2-1. The Astros started off the inning with a Kyle Tucker single, and a Rafael Devers error put two men on. Myles Straw would ground into what looked like a double play, but Marwin Gonzalez’ throw was wild, letting a run score. Two more walks followed, and Garrett Whitlock would replace Sawamura. Whitlock walked in the fourth run, and a Yordan Alvarez single brang home the fifth run.
- What’s next?: The Red Sox take on the ‘Stros in the final match of their three-game affair. Nick Pivetta takes on Framber Valdez, at 8:10 PM EST.
