In addition to the Red Sox getting Franchy Cordero and Josh Winckowski in the Andrew Benintendi deal back in February, three players to be named later were in the deal.

From the Royals, the Red Sox received two right-handed pitching prospects – Luis De Rosa and Grant Gambrell. While from the Mets, the Red Sox received outfield prospect, Freddy Valdez.

Freddy Valdez:

Valdez, 19, ranks as the fifth outfield prospect, and the 17th overall prospect in the Mets organization, according to Baseball America. He was signed by the Mets for $1.4M back in 2018, as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic.

Through 260 plate appearances, Valdez hit .279 in his first season of pro ball back in 2019, along with six home runs in 57 appearances with the Mets Dominican Summer League team, and three with the Mets Gulf Coast League team. He was named the Mets DSL team’s player of the year in his 39-RBI season.

The 6-foot-2, 222-pound outfielder has spent most of his time in right field, while seeing a bit of action in left field.

Luis De Rosa:

Luis De Rosa, who turns 19 in July, is a young right-hander who was named the Royals Dominican team’s player of the year in 2019. He posted a 2.93 ERA across 12 games (11 starts), and 38.2 innings of work, striking out 58.

As noted by bloggingtheredsox.com’s Brendan Campbell, the former shortstop will be Rule 5 eligible for the first time in December of 2022.

Grant Gambrell:

Gambrell, 23, ranked as the 21st prospect in the Royals organization on Fangraphs. He was drafted by the Royals in the third round of the 2019 MLB Draft, and opened his pro career with the Royals High-A team.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound hurler posted a 4.37 ERA in five starts during 2019, while striking out 28 across 22.2 innings.
