The Royals grabbed the series win over the Red Sox Sunday on getaway day, defeating Boston 7-3.
Nathan Eovaldi tossed a six-pitch first inning, followed by 66 pitches through the second and third inning ending his day with 87 pitches through just four frames. The right-hander gave up four runs (three earned) off seven hits, walking one and striking out four. His season ERA moves to 3.90, while he is nabbed with his fourth loss of the season, pushing his record to 7-4 on the year.
Darwinzon Hernandez tossed 1.1 innings, allowing a run off two hits. Yacksel Rios would finish the sixth for Hernandez, but not before surrendering two runs off four hits. Matt Andriese pitched the final two innings of the ballgame, holding Kansas City scoreless allowing just two hits.
The offense was quiet for the Red Sox, as Boston’s offense blasted two homers totaling three runs on the day. Kike Hernandez cranked his sixth homer of the season with a two-run shot over the left-center field fence in the second inning, and Rafael Devers socked his 18th homer with a solo big fly in the eighth over the centerfield wall.
Game notes:
- Christian Arroyo left the game in the third inning with a right shin bone bruise
- Kevin Plawecki left the game in the fourth due to left hamstring tightness
