Christian Arroyo has been placed on the 10-Day IL, the Red Sox announced Thursday afternoon, and will be recalling Michael Chavis from Triple-A Worcester.
Arroyo, in Sunday’s 7-3 loss, left in the third inning after colliding with Hunter Renfroe. Despite manager Alex Cora saying he was only supposed to be out for a few days with a bruise, he’s going to the injured list with right shin contusion.
Michael Chavis is being called up for the third time this year, after hitting .273 in his 11 games and 33 appearances in his two stints with the team, one of which lasted just one day. Chavis tallied four singles to go along with his four doubles, one long ball, two RBIs, seven runs, 13 strikeouts, no walks. (.321 wOBA, .232 xwOBA, 101 wRC+)
Chavis has had a stellar month of June in Triple-A, hitting .313 with an OPS of .979, blasting six homers in 16 games during the month.
Arroyo will head to the injured list for the second time this season, as he’s had a breakout year with the Red Sox in 2021 hitting .264 with an OPS of .756. He’s blasted four homers to go along with his nine doubles, 19 RBIs, 17 runs, five walks, and 38 strikeouts across a 41 games, and 125 plate appearances. (.330 wOBA, .291 xwOBA, 106 wRC+)
