Hunter Renfroe Blasts Pair of Crucial Homers as Boston Red Sox Beat Royals, 6-5; Teams Combine For 8 Homers

The Red Sox were led by Hunter Renfroe Monday night, as he blasted a go-ahead big fly to complete the comeback win.

Garrett Richards ran Boston into some trouble early, as Royals’ first baseman Carlos Santana blasted a three-run shot before the Red Sox could even record an out. Kike Hernandez scorched a leadoff homer for the second consecutive day, only for the Royals to follow up with two more runs in the second with a pair of solo homers.

Bobby Dalbec crushed his 10th homer of the season in the second, and in the fourth the Red Sox were able to tie up the game, after Hunter Renfroe hit a two-run homer, and Michael Chavis singled to knock in the tying run.

Richards surrendered just three hits across the final three innings he pitched. He finished his day tossing 5.2 innings, giving up five runs on 11 hits, striking out just three batters. He was removed from the ballgame in the sixth, as Hirokazu Sawamura took over to get the final out of the frame and tossed a scoreless seventh.

He, Josh Taylor, and Matt Barnes combined for 3 1/3 innings out of the bullpen, as they gave up just one hit altogether. Matt Barnes tallied his 17th save of the season, as the Red Sox captured their 48th win.
