Despite being invited to the MLB’s 2021 Home Run Derby, Rafael Devers turned down the invite. Why? Manager Alex Cora explained the other day on WEEI.

“He declined. He feels like he’s not a home run hitter in BP (batting practice). Great answer by him, I guess,” Cora said.

Devers has 21 homers on the season, which is tied for eighth in the American League. Although he declined, Cora says he wanted the third baseman to do it.

“I wanted Raffy to do it. I think he was going to be okay,” said Cora. “I understand why not and I respect that decision.”
