Christian Arroyo will be heading to the injured list for the third time this season, as he suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday night’s Red Sox-Yankees game while debuting at first base.
Arroyo stretched a little to far when receiving a throw from Kike Hernandez, and was taken out of the game immediately after.
The Red Sox will be reinstating Danny Santana from the IL. Santana went to the IL after a left quad strain and was rehabbing in Worcester while on the IL. His rehab was supposed to last 20 days, but it was cut to only a couple days as the utility-man will return to the Red Sox.
In 104 plate appearances the switch-hitter has hit just .167 (16-for-96), while hitting three home runs and recording 10 RBIs, although he has hit .375 this season in Triple-A Worcester. He’s tied for a career-low 40 wRC+ with the Red Sox this year, but has shown value when utilized all across the diamond.
Arroyo, the now first baseman, will head to the injured list yet again. He was moved to first base due to center fielder Jarren Duran pushing Kike Hernandez back to second base. That moved the second baseman Arroyo to first.
The right-handed bat has had a career season with Boston, hitting .271 with a .792 OPS, to go along with his six homers, 25 RBIs, and 114 wRC+. Five of his six long balls have either tied the game or given Boston the lead.
