The Red Sox host the Blue Jays for a four-game set as Boston’s Xander Bogaerts has the night off versus Toronto.
Taking his place at short is Kiké Hernández, who was just nominated AL Player of The Week and will be making his third start at shortstop this season (fifth overall appearance). Bogaerts being out of the lineup is not injury-related, as manager Alex Cora plans to give several players the day off in the coming days.
Candian-born Nick Pivetta will take the mound against Toronto, in hopes of picking up his ninth win of the season. The right-hander is 1-2 with a 6.67 ERA in his career against Toronto through five starts and allowed a season-high six runs and four long balls against the Jays when he last faced them on the 12th of June.
