The Boston Bruins have signed Free Agent Derek Forbort to a 3 year $3 million AAV deal, according to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff Hockey.

Forbort played for the Winnipeg Jets last season. He tallied up two goals and 12 points last season while carrying a plus 1 rating in 56 games last year. He also registered 80 hits.

Adding the 6-foot-4, 219-pound defenseman is a need for the Bruins, but is it the right defenseman they are looking for? Boston needed to be aggressive in the defensemen market this offseason. Sure Forbort is a fine replacement for Jeremy Lauzon, but they still need to go after a physical player to replace Kevan Miller.

Forbort eats up ice time, averaging 20:45 last season for Winnipeg and over his five-year career averages 19:55.

Forbort is a decent top-4 option for the black and gold, but don’t be surprised if Don Sweeney goes after a bruiser after losing many big bodies this off-season.
