DETRIOT — Tuesday night marked the Red Sox’s fifth consecutive loss, as they fell 4-2 to the Tigers.
J.D. Martinez and Boston drew first blood, as after a throwing error was made to put Xander Bogaerts on, an RBI single put the Sox up 1-0 in the first. They added to their lead as Hunter Renfroe homered in the second.
Miguel Cabrera blasted his 499th career homer off Garrett Richards in the second, and in the fourth Detroit knotted it up with a sac fly from Harold Castro.
Richards was removed in the fifth after giving up a walk which was followed up by an RBI double off the bat of Akil Baddoo with nobody out. Hirokazu Sawamura came on to finish the inning. Hansel Robles would toss a scoreless sixth.
Yacksel Rios would have duties of the seventh, and he would surrender an RBI single from Robbie Grossman to make it 4-2 Tigers.
Austin Davis threw a clean eighth, but the Sox went blank in the final seven innings to give Detroit the victory.
