DETROIT — Eduardo Rodriguez proved why his advanced metrics back up his ERA tonight, as he tossed five two-hit innings to lead the Red Sox to victory over the Tigers.
J.D. Martinez seems to have fallen out of a slump, as after an ugly stretch where he went just 3-for-29, the right-handed bat notched two hits yesterday and blasted a solo homer in the second to put Boston up 1-0.
Kiké Hernandez (two-run) and Jarren Duran would swat back-to-back homers in the fifth to put the Sox up 3-0.
Eduardo Rodriguez would finish his night allowing just two hits through five scoreless innings, as he struck out 10 despite walking four before Hirokazu Sawamura hurled a clean sixth.
Jonathan Schoop would sock a solo homer off Josh Taylor in the seventh to put Detroit on the board, as Adam Ottavino would come on to finish the seventh before pitching a run-less eighth for Boston.
Matt Barnes, who came off the COVID-19 related injured list today, blanked the Tigers in the ninth in order to capture his 24th save of the season.
The Red Sox move to 64-45 and will take on the Tigers in the rubber match of a three-game set tomorrow night.
