Martin Perez Lasts Just 1.1 Innings as Red Sox Lose in Forgettable Fashion, 8-1, to Tigers

DETROIT — The Red Sox have now dropped six of their last seven with a forgettable loss Thursday.

Martin Perez summoned a leadoff solo homer to Robbie Grossman in the first, and Victor Reyes hit a leadoff triple in the second off Perez. A sac fly made it 2-0, and he would load the bases after that before Phillips Valdez would come on for relief. An RBI groundout would score one, but Valdez would get out of the frame.

Valdez would hurl a scoreless third and fourth, but Hansel Robles would run into some trouble in the fifth. Jaimer Candelario hit an RBI ground-rule double before a two-run triple from Reyes would make it 6-0.

Austin Davis would let up an RBI single to Jonathan Schoop in the sixth and an RBI groundout to Reyes in the seventh to make it 8-0. Yacksel Rios would finish the seventh and toss a scoreless eighth.

Boston’s only run came in the eighth, as they loaded the bases but could only muster a sac fly from Alex Verdugo, in order to avoid being shut out.

The Red Sox fall to 64-46 on the season.
