Red Sox Place Christian Vazquez on Bereavement List, Recall Connor Wong From Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON — Ahead of Wednesday night’s Red Sox-Rays, Boston placed catcher Christian Vazquez on the bereavement list. As a corresponding move, they’ve recalled Connor Wong from the WooSox.

Vazquez has hit .254 this season, as through his 100 appearances he’s tallied four homers, 16 doubles, 37 RBI, 36 runs scored, and a .639 OPS. He’s thrown out 12 runners this season, the most in the majors.

Wong, through several brief stints with the team, has gone 3-for-12 (.250) with a double across five games, and he’s thrown out the only runner who’s attempted to steal against him. However, the 25-year-old catcher acquired in the Mookie Betts/David Price deal has hit just .183 through 27 games with Triple-A Worcester this season, while socking two big flies.

For those wondering, the bereavement list is when a player leaves the team for a short amount of time to mourn the death of a close one.
