Payton Pritchard will not suit up again for the Celtics this summer due to a prior engagement. C’s Summer league head coach, Joe Mazzulla confirmed the news after Friday’s practice.
“We’re having a talk as a team and organization, and Payton won’t be with us the rest of the way,” Mazzulla said.
This prior engagement was reportedly talked about months ago, and the Celtics honored it.
This is unfortunate for Celtics fans who wanted to continue watching Pritchard light it up this summer. Through three Celtic’s wins, Pritchard is scoring 20.3 points per game while shooting a staggering 57.7% from deep. The C’s guard also showed his improved playmaking ability by averaging 8.7 assists per game.
These are remarkable numbers for Pritchard and Celtics fans are hoping to see this continue into the season. Summer league is not always the best measuring stick but Pritchard’s play could earn him an increased role for Udoka’s Celtics off the bench.
