The Red Sox have activated Christian Arroyo of the injured list, after suffering a hamstring injury in his first career start at first base. As a corresponding move, they’ve optioned Jonathan Arauz to the WooSox.
Arroyo has struggled to stay off the injured list this season, as this most recent stint was his third time on the injured list. He’s been rehabbing in Triple-A Worcester for the past week.
Despite that, the versatile infielder who now has the ability to play first base has had a career season. Arroyo has hit .271/.327/.465 to go along with six homers, 25 RBI, and a 114 wRC+ through 50 games.
Arauz has presumably now taken Michael Chavis’ role with the club, going up and down when there’s an injury. In his second season with the club, and across many stints, the 23-year-old infielder has hit .207/.281/.241 through 16 games and 32 plate appearances. He’s notched two RBI, two runs scored, no homers, and a 46 wRC+.
