Red Sox Place Hunter Renfroe on Bereavement List, Recall Jarren Duran From Triple-A Worcester

The Red Sox are placing Hunter Renfroe on the bereavement list, after a close family member passed away. As a corresponding move, Boston is recalling Jarren Duran.

“Hunter had to go home,” announced Red Sox manager Alex Cora. “He lost somebody in the family, so he’s not with us. Thoughts and prayers to his family of course. He’s gonna be missed.”

Renfroe has had a career year with Boston, as he’s hit .258/.316/.501 with 25 homers, to go along with 77 RBI, 71 runs, and a 116 wRC+.

“We don’t know yet obviously when he’s gonna come back,” Cora said. “Jarren (Duran) will be here, he’ll be the guy that we’re gonna call up. He’s gonna play center.”

Duran was demoted just days ago after hitting only .221 with an OPS of only .608, socking just two homers through his first 89 plate appearances (27 games) as a major-leaguer. He’s also had eight RBI, 12 runs, one stolen base, three doubles, two triples, and a 56 wRC+.
