The Patriots have released Cam Newton, after being signed to a one-year, $14M this offseason. It was first reported by Jim McBride, then made official by the team.
Newton is coming off of an unsuccessful 2020 season, where he led New England to a 7-9 record. He threw 10 interceptions and eight touchdowns while completing 65.8% of his passes. He also rushed for 195 yards and tallied 12 touchdowns on the ground.
Mac Jones had an impressive preseason, and will now be starting Week 1. Most people probably didn’t see the releasing coming, after coach Bill Belichick said Cam was the starter all of OTAs and all of the preseason.
