The Boston Red Sox have placed Jarren Duran on the COVID-19 injured list, and have recalled catcher Connor Wong from Triple-A Worcester.
“Duran is not feeling well, so he’s going through with his testing,” Sox manager Alex Cora said Friday before they placed him on the injured list. “Obviously, he won’t be here with us today. We’ll know more hopefully later today or in the third inning, I guess, you know? We’ll know. But he doesn’t feel great, so we’ll go through the process.”
Duran was originally in Boston’s lineup vs. the Indians Friday in their series opener but was later scratched.
If it is a positive test, the Sox outfielder will be the eighth Boston player to test positive, as he’ll join the team’s COVID-19 outbreak. Regardless if it is or isn’t, he’ll be the 10th player to be placed on the COVID IL.
Through six games with Boston this season, Wong has gone 4-for-13 (.308/.357/.538) with one RBI, three runs, no homers, one walk, one double, and one triple.
