Red Sox Claim Geoff Hartlieb Off Waivers, Place Taylor Motter on Major-League Roster; Connor Wong Optioned to Triple-A Worcester

The Red Sox continue to add depth to their squad amid their COVID-19 outbreak, as they’ve claimed right-handed hurler Geoff Hartlieb off waivers, added the recently claimed Taylor Motter to the major-league roster, and optioned Connor Wong to Triple-A Worcester.

Hartlieb will also be joining Wong in a WooSox uniform.

Motter, 31, was claimed by Boston on Thursday. He’s raked in Triple-A this season, hitting .335 with 24 homers, to go along with a 186 wRC+ across 67 games. The utility man, who mainly plays shortstop, has hit just .150 with the Rockies this season through 13 games, not racking up a single RBI.

Hartlieb, 27, served up 11 runs through seven outings (nine innings) this season with the Mets (11.00 ERA), before getting waived by the team. However, in 2020 with the Pirates, he slated a 3.63 ERA across 21 outings with Pittsburgh.
