The Boston Red Sox have designated Taylor Motter for assignment, after a short sting with the team where he appeared in three games after being claimed. Returning from the COVID-19 injured list is Kiké Hernandez and Danny Santana. Franchy Cordero was also optioned to Triple-A Worcester.
Motter went 2-for-6 across seven plate appearances with the Sox, tallying a triple and two runs to go along with one RBI, and a walk. Boston has seven days to either trade, release, or waive the utility man.
Hernandez will return from the COVID IL, as he was the first player to be placed on it, and presumably started Boston’s outbreak. He’ll bat leadoff and play center in his return. Santana was also placed on the list for precautionary reasons, as he “wasn’t feeling well” but continued to test negative for the virus.
Cordero will be optioned after another short stint, filling in for players on the IL.
