The Boston Red Sox made several roster moves before Monday’s west coast series opener in Seattle, against the Mariners. Austin Davis rejoined the team after being on paternity leave. Hirokazu Sawamura also rejoined the team, after being Boston’s fifth positive COVID-19 test.
Martin Perez and Matt Barnes, both a part of the Sox’s COVID outbreak, will rejoin the team in the coming days. Barnes is scheduled to make a rehab outing with Triple-A Worcester, in Hartford, on Wednesday, and to rejoin the team this weekend. Manager Alex Cora expects Perez back by Tuesday.
Brad Peacock, signed by Boston in the midst of the outbreak, allowed nine runs through 5.1 innings (15.19 ERA/two outings). Gonsalves, through 4.1 innings, allowed two runs (4.15 ERA/three games).
Expect to see many roster moves in the coming days from the Red Sox, as countless players will be returning from the COVID-19 related injured list, including some of Boston’s more valuable players.
