The New England Patriots have signed 31-year-old free agent linebacker Jamie Collins, his agent confirmed on Twitter. This will mark Collins’ third stint as a Patriot, as he was released by the Detroit Lions on the 28th of September.
The two-time super bowl champion will add some much-needed depth to the linebacker position as the team has been missing Ja’whuan Bentley to a shoulder injury. Collins’ return will also restore the Collins, Dont’a Hightower, Van Noy trio that found meaningful success for the Patriots defense in the past.
The signing was made possible after the Patriots traded Stephon Gilmore, which cleared up cap space.
