Celtics Stay Hot in Well Balanced, 113-107 Win Over Hornets

Celtics

The Boston Celtics matched up against the Charlotte Hornets Wednesday night and walked away with a huge 113-107 win. The win is the team’s fifth win in their past six games.

This game was close the whole way but the Celtics were always on the front foot. They were able to build small leads for stretches, but Charlotte was able to claw their way back every time.

The Celtics looked to put the game away after taking a 102-91 lead with 4:57 remaining but the Hornets were able to make one final push. They went on a 16-5 run over the next four minutes and tied the game at 107.

Jayson Tatum answered by driving hard down the lane and making two clutch free throws to give Boston a two-point lead with 35 seconds to go. The Hornets had a chance to tie or take the lead after the timeout but Robert Williams came up with a crucial block on P.J. Washington’s three-point attempt. Marcus Smart then knocked down two more free throws and sealed the win for Boston.

This win was one of the most balanced performances the Celtics put together all year.

Boston had two players score over 20 points in this game and to everyone’s surprise, neither of those players were Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown. They also had a total of six players in double-figures. Josh Richardson led the way in scoring with a team-high 23 points. Smart was right behind him with 22 of his own.

Tatum struggled from the field but was able to contribute outside of his scoring. Tatum finished with 19 points, hauled in six boards, and dished out nine of the team’s 31 assists.

Hornets star LaMelo Ball dropped a career-high 38 points to go along with his six boards and nine assists.

This win for the Celtics makes three in a row and could prove to be massive as the season enters its final stages. Boston will look to extend their win streak to four as they take on the Detroit Pistons on Friday.
