Lost in the flurry of moves the New England Patriots made Tuesday was the re-signing of both running back James White and kicker Nick Folk — both on two-year deals.
Here are three thoughts on the two signings.
Patriots likely sticking with current running back core
This is probably the most you’ll see from the Patriots at the running back position, as they’ll likely stick with the current core of Rhamondre Stevenson, Damien Harris, White, and J.J. Taylor — with the exception of some late additions and the potential addition of Brandon Bolden.
No major changes to the group should happen.
Injuries aren’t bothersome for Patriots
Folk, 37, has been dealing with a left knee injury for the past two years, while White’s season was ended just a few games in due to a hip injury last season.
But, the Patriots don’t seem to be bothered too much by the injuries that could have potentially raised concerns.
Patriots aren’t moving on from veterans
In exception of Ted Karras and Shaq Mason, and possibly a couple more, most veterans the Patriots are not moving on from. That includes both White and Folk.
Both White and Folk are years above age 30, and the Patriots have brought back aging veterans in Devin McCourty, Brian Hoyer, and Matthew Slater.
