The Boston Red Sox fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday afternoon as Nick Pivetta and Jake Diekman both struggled for the Sox on the mound.
- Ceddanne Rafaela was Boston’s only means of offensive production as he hit a two-run homer in the ninth
- Despite only two runs, the Sox did have nine hits though
- Christin Stewart and Rob Refsnyder all got a base knock while Franchy Cordero had a pair of hits — all three guys are fighting for a roster spot
- Kevin Plawecki also had a pair of hits, and Christian Arroyo got a knock and a walk
- Nick Yorke walked in his one plate appearance, scoring on the Rafaela homer
—
- Pivetta tossed four innings, striking out five but allowing five hits on three walks for three runs, which included a pair of big flies let up

- Diekman let up a three-run homer in his one inning following a hit batsmen and a walk
- Kutter Crawford pitched two scoreless innings
Boston will take on the Braves tomorrow afternoon as they’ll return home at 1:05 p.m. ET, in what could be Trevor Story day at jetBlue Park.
