The Boston Celtics, without Jayson Tatum or Al Horford, fell to the Milwaukee Bucks Thursday night 127-121 in a thrilling affair.

Boston fought hard all the way through but fell behind in the final minutes and dropped their 31st game of the year despite a strong effort. Marcus Smart led the effort with 29 points, while Daniel Theis and Jaylen Brown (who had a triple-double) both matched each other’s 22 points.

Smart had seven assists while Brown had 11 with 10 points, and Derrick White also had 19 points. Aaron Nesmith, Sam Hauser (11 points), and Luke Kornet combined for 46 minutes while Payton Pritchard had 12 points through 19 minutes. Grant Williams had a less impressive four points through 37 points though he did grab eight boards in Horford’s absence.

With that, Boston (50-31) falls a half-game behind the Bucks (50-30) but with a Sixers (49-31) loss to the Raptors today, they remain in third place. The Celtics will finish their season off Sunday afternoon against the Grizzlies.
