Peres Jepchirchir and Evans Chebet were the two Boston Marathon winners, but the Boston Red Sox weren’t winners on Marathon Monday as they fell to the Minnesota Twins, 8-2, after a disastrous eighth inning from Kutter Crawford.
19 runners were left stranded. Christian Vazquez hit an RBI groundout in the fifth before launching a solo homer over the Green Monster in the seventh and Xander Bogaerts scored one on an infield RBI single.
Rich Hill gave up a pair of two-run homers though he made it into the fifth inning, and Phillips Valdez finished the frame for him before hurling a perfect sixth. Crawford got out of a jam in the seventh but wasn’t nearly as fortunate in the eighth as four runs came across on four walks, a passed ball, and a single that scored two.
Hirokazu Sawamura came on to finish the eighth and tossed a scoreless ninth.
The Sox will host the Blue Jays starting tomorrow at 7:10 p.m. ET which will start a three-game set, with Nathan Eovaldi taking on Yusei Kikuchi.
