After being the hero in last night’s 2-1 series-opening victory, Connor Wong will start once again in the Boston Red Sox lineup while Nick Pivetta takes the mound as the Sox will take on the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday night at Fenway Park.
Pivetta seeks a bounce-back start after starting 0-2 with a 9.39 ERA to start the season. The right-hander experienced low velocity in his latest start, with manager Alex Cora citing mechanics being off as the factor.
The 25-year-old Wong will be making his first career start without Nathan Eovaldi, while he’ll make his fifth career start in his career. Ronaldo Hernandez being with the team after both Kevin Plawecki and Christian Vazquez went on the COVID-19 related injured list means he’ll likely get to make his major-league debut in the getaway game tomorrow afternoon barring an entrance of some sort in tonight’s matchup.
Boston also swapped the usual third and fourth spot, putting designated hitter J.D. Martinez in the three-hole while batting shortstop Xander Bogaerts at the cleanup spot. Neither two have batted anywhere in the order other than their spots all season.
The Sox — who have won three of their last four and are tied for the division lead with Toronto and the Yankees at 6-5 — will be honoring Jerry Remy pregame. Here are tonight’s lineups:
