Red Sox Lineup: J.D. Martinez Returns in Series Opener vs. Blue Jays, Trevor Story Receives Night Off

Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox open a four-game series Monday night in Toronto vs. the Blue Jays as J.D. Martinez returns to the lineup, though they’ll be without Trevor Story as he’ll receive a routine day off. Nathan Eovaldi takes the mound and will face Jose Berrios at 7:07 p.m. ET.

Martinez missed four games due to left adductor tightness, while seven days on turf will likely provoke some off days for every infielder, as the Sox want to get Story off his feet for a night. Kiké Hernandez also returns to the leadoff spot, but the Sox will again roll out an unusual lineup, with Martinez hitting fifth, Rafael Devers hitting cleanup, and Alex Verdugo hitting in the No. 2 hole. Christian Arroyo will also play his natural second base position while Jackie Bradley Jr. will hit sixth and take his right field spot.

Kevin Plawecki is also starting behind the dish and catching after being activated prior to the matchup.
