The Boston Red Sox continue to roll out unusual lineups that are becoming the usual with Will Venable at the helm, as Rafael Devers is out tonight. Trevor Story leads off after a night off last night while Alex Verdugo hits second, Kiké Hernandez hits fifth, Jackie Bradley Jr. is at the No. 6 spot and Christian Arroyo is playing third base. Nick Pivetta (0-3, 10.30 ERA) looks to rebound from his early-season struggle as the Sox take on the Toronto Blue Jays at 7:07 p.m. ET.
Devers, as Story was last night, is out. Each infielder is expected to receive a day off with the Sox in the midst of a seven-game stretch on turf. Because of that, Arroyo, who played second base for Story last night, will see his first action at third base this season. Verdugo will be hitting second for the second consecutive day, something that hasn’t been seen at all before yesterday this season but was a common ritual until his mid-season struggle pushed him back in the lineup.
Pivetta takes on Kevin Gausman (1-1, 2.89 ERA) as both the right-hander and the Sox look to avoid their fourth straight loss. Here’s the Sox lineup for tonight’s affair.
