The New England Patriots traded pick No. 54 and their fifth-round pick for pick No. 50, as they selected Baylor receiver Tyquan Thornton.

The 6-foot-3 wideout ran a 4.28 40-yard dash, a speed demon, though just like their first-round pick, they selected someone who wasn’t projected to be anywhere near the spot selected. Thornton was projected to be a third or fourth-round pick, some had him as late as the fifth and sixth round.

The four-year player caught 143 passes for 2,242 yards and 19 touchdowns in his career at Baylor, catching 62 passes on 948 yards and 10 touchdowns this season.
