The Boston Red Sox take on the Orioles Sunday afternoon as they look to start the month of May strong after a 9-13 record in May. A new face in the starting lineup as newly claimed Jaylin Davis will make his debut with the team, while J.D. Martinez returns after missing seven out of his past 10, including the past three due to his left adductor injury. Franchy Cordero will hit fifth and play first base, and Nick Pivetta is on the mound as the Sox look to take the weekend series at 1:05 p.m. ET. Alex Verdugo also gets a rare day off.
Boston fell, 2-1, in extras last night.
Pivetta rebounded from an early-season drought where he went 0-3 with a 10.30 ERA through three starts in his last start, as he wasn’t perfect but did go 4.2 innings allowing two runs on three hits — a great improvement from his disastrous first trio of outings. He’ll look to continue the same as he’ll face Orioles right-hander Jordan Lyles.
